The Panasonic DMC GH1 is basically an enhanced version of the innovative Panasonic G1. The big difference is the addition of a High Definition movie mode. It is still a ground breaking camera offering you the features of a Digital SLR camera, including interchangeable lenses, in a smaller and more lightweight body. To achieve this Panasonic has removed the mirror from the DMC GH1.
In terms of features the DMC GH1 is a 12 megapixel model. There are two resolutions available for High Definition movies. These are 1080/25p and 720/50p. Sound can be recorded for the movies via a stereo microphone.
A lens adapter is required to fit lenses to the DMC GH1. It is compatible with various four thirds system lens, but it is only lenses from the Panasonic G series that offer full functionality relating to focusing.
As you would expect there are a range of manual exposure modes available to you allowing you to fine tune your photos. There is also a Live View mode to help with composition. To help get your started there are also a few features that have been migrated from compact cameras such as scene modes, intelligent auto settings and face detection.
The camera is available in kit form with a 14 – 144mm lens being available. When attached to the camera the focal length of the lens is equivalent to 28 – 280mm in 35mm format. |
